Anniversary bells make sweet wedding music for magazine

Anniversary bells chimed thrice for wedding magazine Darizi at Ramas Oyster Bar in Wan Chai. Founder Andy Ann Yu-chiu (left) had matrimonial rites so much on his mind that he modelled the third anniversary party on a Hong Kong wedding banquet.

'We'll try and keep it short for you - no 13-course feast,' Ann reassured guests in his opening speech on Tuesday.

The evening opened with the ubiquitous 'memories' slideshow. Instead of baby pictures of the bride and groom, however, the subject was the online and print magazine's first baby steps and growth in the market.

Chief operating officer and art director Joseph Mak then took the stage to talk about the must-have qualities of a Darizi cover girl.

'Beauty, a natural smile and - my personal weakness - dimples are what we look for in our cover 'brides',' Mak said. 'Those were the qualities which Canto-pop singer Ella Koon Yun-na used to beat out the competition to become the December special-edition cover girl.'

Special guest Koon (pictured centre next to Canto-pop newcomer Jinny Ng Yok-hei) said: 'It's nice to be considered bridal material ... but first I have to find a dream husband.'
