Darren Beadman can sizzle at Sha Tin today and is in prime position to claim the Jockey Challenge as a $2 favourite with an outstanding book supplied by trainer John Moore. Beadman has a full book of 10 mounts after picking up rides on Jolly Bird and Handsome Batchelor from injured Brett Doyle, who stood down from his engagements yesterday, following an accident at the barrier trials on Friday. Doyle injured his neck and right thigh when Apex became fractious in the barriers and was subsequently withdrawn from his trial run - and his good book of eight has been divided up among his fellow jockeys as a result. With Doyle out of the picture at least, Beadman's main opponents appear to be leading rider Brett Prebble and Gerald Mosse at $5 and in-form Alex Lai Hoi-wing ($7). Trainer David Hall was quick to secure the services of Beadman when forced to find a substitute for Doyle and has booked 'The Dazzler' on Jolly Bird and Handsome Batchelor in races one and three. It is the Moore-trained runners that fill the remainder of his card, however, that make Beadman such a strong chance. Debutant Surrounded boasts plenty of ability and should go close to winning the second race, King Al Akbar is shooting for a hat-trick in race four and last-start winner King Of Hearts may have now turned the corner and gets the chance to shed his reputation for inconsistency in race five. The Challenge may well be done and dusted by midway through the card, but that won't stop Beadman scoring points all through the back end of the programme.
