Census dates set for next year

A census will be carried out from June 30 to August 2 next year, a paper submitted to the Legislative Council shows. The Census and Statistics Department will collect data and it estimates 2.4 million households will be involved. Apart from face-to-face interviews, questionnaires will be delivered by post or via the internet.

Broadband labels encouraged

Telecoms watchdog Ofta is attempting to encourage the use of broadband. Labels - showing if fibre optics run from the operator to a building or to homes direct - have been displayed in more than 8,000 buildings, whose network operators have agreed to take part in the scheme. About 6,700 use fibre optics externally and copper cables internally. All but PCCW, the biggest, have joined the scheme.

Taxi driver charged over death

A taxi driver arrested after a man was killed and six people were injured in a collision between his cab and a minibus in Sha Tin in May will appear in Sha Tin Court tomorrow. The 30-year-old was charged with dangerous driving causing death when he reported back to police. The minibus driver, 65, who was also arrested after the crash, was released unconditionally.
