ADULTS can now improve their English under a new vocational training programme.
The Government is discussing with the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry Examinations Board plans to introduce the Certificate for Vocational English Programme.
Acting Secretary for Education and Manpower Lam Woon-kwong said the certificate aimed to give the business sector an assurance of a high standard of practical English.
''There are great differences in quality between different English language courses offered by so-called professional institutes.
''A unified standard is needed to streamline quality and to give employers an index of their staff's English level,'' Mr Lam said.
The Government has spent a year organising and planning courses with the London Chamber of Commerce.
