Project honours top NT students
THIS year's New Territories Region Outstanding Students Selection is now open for nominations.
The objective of the project, organised by Yuen Long Jaycees, is to encourage students to have a balanced personality development. Civic knowledge and social awareness have been given equal importance as academic achievement in the selection criteria.
All Secondary Four to Seven students attending day schools or technical institutes in the New Territories are eligible.
However, the participants must be nominated by their principals, teachers, Regional or District Board members. The participants are also required to write a short essay of 1,000 words in either Chinese or English on any of the following topics: The criteria a citizen should use while voting.
Training and developing oneself through participation in community service.

Entry forms can be obtained from NT region school offices, Yaohan Department Stores, Sing Tao Centres (Sha Tin, Tsuen Wan, Tuen Mun, Yuen Long), District Offices, JPC clubhouses in the New Territories, district public libraries, KCRC and LRT passenger service counters, or through post by sending a self-addressed and stamped envelope to PO Box 371, Yuen Long Post Office, New Territories.
Participants will be invited to attend a preliminary selection on June 18 at the Tsuen Wan Government Secondary School. Successful candidates will join a training camp at the Kadoorie Agricultural Research Centre on June 25 and 26. Final selection will be held on July 2 at the YMCA in Tsim Sha Tsui.
Finalists attending the interview will be awarded a certificate each. The six winners and their respective schools will each receive a trophy and $2,000 worth of book vouchers.
The winners will also be selected as delegates to join the Culture Exchange Programme to Guangzhou in July and to Taiwan in August.
The closing date for application is June 5.
