Killer mother cleared of murder but guilty of manslaughter

A woman who killed the children she had with her long-time boyfriend the day after she discovered he had other lovers and children was acquitted of murder and found guilty of manslaughter. Lee Fung-yee, 38, had pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder over the deaths of the boy, Li Siu-hang, 13, and girl, Li Po-ka, 12, at their Tuen Mun flat on October 14 last year. She served them orange juice spiked with sleeping pills, then burned charcoal. The jury returned unanimous verdicts after deliberating for 71/2hours. They found Lee guilty of two counts of manslaughter due to diminished responsibility. Madam Justice Clare-Marie Beeson adjourned sentencing to December 1.

Slash attack in hotel bed

A woman, 30, was being sought by police last night for allegedly injuring her boyfriend with a pair of scissors and a cutter in a short-stay hotel in Tsuen Wan. The man, 43, was asleep when the attack happened in the hotel in Yeung Uk Road at about 4.30am yesterday. The man was treated for minor arm and hand injuries.

Drunk held for attacking cabbie

A taxi passenger who appeared to be drunk was arrested for assaulting a cabbie in Tsing Yi. The man, 42, who entered the taxi in Yau Ma Tei, argued over the bill with the driver, 55, on arrival at Ching Kwai Estate in Tsing Yi Road and allegedly punched him.
