Douglas Whyte is in the box seat to whittle away Brett Prebble's early-season advantage in the Premiership at Happy Valley tonight and, with a strong card, Whyte looks hard to beat in the Jockey Challenge at $2.10 favourite. Prebble will miss tonight's meeting - along with Sunday - as penalty for a charge of careless riding earlier this month and has left the door wide open for Whyte to chip into his three-win lead and charge to the top of the jockeys' list. Zac Purton may well be the danger to Whyte tonight and is attractively priced at an opening quote of $14, but with only four rides to hang his hat on, he will need to make the most of each point-scoring opportunity to topple the Durban Demon. Whyte will sit out the first race, giving his competitors a fighting chance, but he will be near the top of the tally after Redoute Star contests the second event. Amazing Venture is a likely improver in race three, Joyful Joyful is a great chance in the next event and Fresh Air will be hard to beat in race five - the middle of Whyte's card will be key to his Challenge claims. A solid finishing treble made up of Ride With The Wind, Showtime and Cheer should ensure Whyte coasts home a comfortable winner.
