What's in a name? A whole lot, when you're talking about Shore, which opened last month in Central's trendy L Place. The 10,000 sqft, split-level restaurant and bar, conceptualised by owners Mark Cholewka and Cathal Kiely, offers guests true wining and dining options, whether it is eating upstairs at the steak and seafood restaurant, sipping signature cocktails at the bar, or chilling out on the terrace. With a surf-and-turf theme segmented into zones - Onshore specialises in prime steaks, while Offshore focuses on fresh seafood - the name makes sense.

Designer Kinney Chan employs a clever juxtaposition of natural earthy tones and materials such as wood and granite to highlight the Onshore area, while pendant crystals and coral patterns surrounding the main bar complement the Offshore setting. Bursts of blue and green hues reflect onto the 1,800 sqft terrace in a harmonious blend of land and sea.

Chef Jason Black creates a menu of timeless classics: dry-aged 'meat on the bone' from Australia, and United States and Canadian prime cuts.

The 'Meat Bible' is a top pick for meat-eaters, whereas seafood lovers can sample the confit salmon with rushed broad beans, crispy Parma ham and fennel cream (HK$218).

The evening continues with DJ Re:Flex, whose funky original beats are renowned throughout Asia. Signature cocktails include 'The Ten Minute Martini', made from fruits, herbs, and spirits, while the 'Upper Shore' - comprising gin, rum, tequila, vodka, triple sec, peach Schnapps and juices - is worth a try.
