Speed Racer is no Formula One grade animal, but a pit change from trainer Michael Chang Chun-wai and some savvy driving from Jeff Lloyd saw the pair salute in the Class Five opener. The grey overraced and spent too much fuel when wearing blinkers at his latest attempt, but the switch back to side winkers had the five-year-old firing on all cylinders from pole position. 'The blinkers just didn't suit him last time and so we swapped him back to the side winkers, but the inside draw really helped him the most today,' Chang said. Lloyd agreed and credited the good barrier for the horse's impressive winning margin of 3 1/2 lengths over Danesouth. 'It was nice to finally get a draw and that allowed him to get into the race without much effort,' Lloyd said. 'In Class Five if you can sit and give a kick like he did today you will always be hard to beat.'
