In times past, some people stuffed messages into a bottle. They then set it afloat, hoping the sea would wash it ashore somewhere for a stranger to find.
Now some people in Guangzhou are doing something similar - in a more technologically savvy way.
A 'drift diary' allows strangers to share their feelings in an actual notebook that passes from person to person among people who want to express their feelings in it.
About 200 Netizens have joined the activity initiated by Grace Lin. She posted a message on social networking sites and people who wanted to participate gave her their addresses and phone numbers.
Once a participant has scribbled, drawn or pasted pictures in the diary, he or she must pass it on to another. That participant will in turn pass it on to a third, and so on. You can remain nameless or choose to reveal your identity.
'Someone may have lots of friends, but few may be reliable enough for you to confide your inner secrets to them,' Lin said. 'We just want to provide a place for people to express their feelings freely.'
