Slalom champ ready to chill out in Sha Tin and team up with Hong Kong's hotshots
The last time Kim Sung-jin visited Hong Kong, it was a dog day afternoon in August, and the heat bothered the world-ranked slalom skater so much he told himself his next visit would be during cooler weather.
He chose the right time to return, as the 20-year-old headlines the holiday festivities at Sha Tin's New Town Plaza from December 24 to 26.
Slalom skating, a freestyle sport in which inline-skaters perform tricks around a straight line of cones, has been a hobby of Kim's for the past decade, and the No1 ranked skater (according to the World Slalom Series) will perform a variety of tricks while he's in town.
'I know there is a small group of slalom skaters in Hong Kong already and I hope to introduce the sport to a wider audience during my visit,' Kim said.
Although he's studying at university in South Korea, Kim frequently travels for international competitions - he most recently won the top prize at a competition in Poland - and he hopes a group of Hong Kong skaters known as the 'Flying Stage' can join him next year.
