Six held over YouTube street brawl

Police arrested six suspected triad members after a video clip appeared on YouTube showing a street fight between two gangs in North Point.

Last night, officers were still hunting for more than 10 others in connection with the brawl that broke out in Java Road at around 11pm on Sunday.

The two gangs, involving about 20 people in total, met at the corner of Java Road and Tong Shui Road after drinking and eating at a food stall at Java Road Municipal Services Building on Sunday night, police said.

An officer said initial investigations showed the fight broke out when members of one gang were accused of bumping into members of the other.

The officer said gang members pushed each other before the brawl broke out, with the three-minute video clip showing the fight spilling into Tong Shui Road, forcing passing vehicles to stop or veer out the way.

In the video, a man is seen being punched and kicked by two others on Tong Shui Road after falling to the ground.

On Java Road, another man loses his glasses as he is assaulted and pushed on the ground.

By yesterday, the video clip, apparently recorded by someone living opposite, had attracted more than 36,500 hits.

Four of the suspects were released on bail yesterday and will report back to police next month.

The two others, aged 19 and 20, were still being held for questioning. No one had been charged last night.
