I WISH to comment on the article ''Flushed with success'' (Sunday Morning Post Magazine, April 24) which dealt with the subject of colonic irrigation.

The article was interpreted to be in favour of colonic irrigation and it frequently quoted various doctors who I suspect were practitioners of homeopathy rather than individuals who had any medical qualification.

There is no evidence that colonic irrigation, as practised in Hong Kong, has any therapeutic value whatsoever. There is no scientific evidence supporting health benefits from it.

I would be very happy to undertake a critical review of any scientific paper on this subject. To the best of my knowledge there is no such article appearing in any recognised medical journal.

Your article, by quoting the various doctors mentioned, perpetuates some ridiculous myths. You state, for example, that the patient can actually view ''the junk that has been accumulating in [his] intestine for years''. The colon (large intestine) is an efficient organ and under normal circumstances it contains stool or waste matter.

It does not become encrusted or covered with barnacles. Furthermore, it is easy to empty the colon efficiently and safely with simple oral medications.
