The art of creating a building from a single sheet of paper
Paper buildings
Take one sheet of plain paper, a pair of sharp scissors, a great deal of patience and a large amount of artistic talent, and what do you get? A stunning, 3D building - that is, if your name is either Ingrid Siliakus or Masahiro Chatani and you are one of the world's top paper architects.
Paper architecture is the art of creating detailed miniature buildings using cut-out and folded paper. The end result is often presented in the form of a folded card that pops up into a building when the card is opened.
Origami / Kirigami
Paper architecture is a combination of origami - Japanese paper folding - and kirigami - Japanese paper cutting. Paper architects always use stiff white paper for their creations. Having no colour in the artwork adds shadow to the cuts and folds.
