Amanda Coyle, Color Me Beautiful, phone 987-6447.
WHEN Amanda Coyle looks you in the eye, she is not being earnest - she is working out your colours. You may have been wearing a tan suit for the last five years but that doesn't necessarily mean it suits you. As an image consultant, Ms Coyle analyses which shades complement your skin, hair and eye colour. Fashion faux pas are also discussed.
Making sure you are colour wise is only the start. Ms Coyle reviews the whole sorry package - hairstyle, cosmetics, accessories, glasses and personal style. It is the kind of advice that can be meted out anywhere with a good source of natural light.
She has a broad client base which includes numerous corporations, as well as housewives, lawyers, bankers and much of Hong Kong's diplomatic corps. 'I have many male clients,' she says. 'They usually need the most help as they haven't been trained to be sensitive to colour.' Ms Coyle adopts a nurturing approach with her fashion victims and colour-clash casualties. Clients are sent away with a swatch book of 'their' colours for future reference. ('It eliminates impulse buying,' she whispers, eyeing me sympathetically.) LIFE AND SOLE Carolyn Myles, reflexologist, phone 877-6134.
'THERE is more to feet than just feet, you know,' says certified reflexologist Carolyn Myles. 'The foot is the mirror of the body.' By pressing the foot in the right places, Ms Myles can stimulate the circulation, immune and lymph systems and all the vital organs. 'I can do reflexology anywhere really,' she says. 'All I need is a little bit of space, and my hands.' Reflexology works best as a preventative tool. 'A reflexology session is extremely relaxing and, as most people are aware, more than 90 per cent of common ailments are stress-related,' Ms Myles says. She is shocked by the number of young people who suffer from stress and related illnesses in Hong Kong. 'You expect to see it in the middle-aged, but I am coming across 28-year-olds with health problems normally experienced by 48-year-olds.' Ms Myles currently spends a couple of days a week practising reflexology in clinics but accepts private bookings and will travel to appointments.
