It would be easy to mistake the Flip Video MinoHD for a portable media player - it really does look like one with its 2-inch colour display and big red control button on the front.
But flip the Flip around and you'll spot a large lens that indicates its true nature: a camcorder. Video resolution tops out at 1280 x 720 pixels at 60fps which, while not quite the 1080p definition on your HD TV, will look pretty good on most other screens, like your PC, or other media players.
The Flip Video records video only as MP4 files, so you may need to convert the files before playback. There are two models, 8GB or 4GB, which record two hours and one hour of video respectively.
The lens is fixed, with a focus range of 1.5 metres to infinity - basically no close-ups. But it comes with a fast, f/2.4 aperture, so it will operate in low light.
To get video off the device, there's a flip-out USB 2.0 connector. It also has a HDMI Mini Connector, but you need to buy a HDMI cable to play back on your TV. It is available in black or silver; in the US, you can order custom designs, but that option is not yet available here.
The Flip Video MinoHD costs HK$1,650 (8GB)/ HK$1,450 (4GB).
