Lawmaker pushes for fairer holiday deal

Lawmaker Lee Cheuk-yan has launched a campaign to pressure the government to revise legislation on public holidays. There are 17 public holidays at present, but only 12 statutory holidays. This means many blue-collar workers get five days fewer than most employees. Lee said aligning statutory and public holidays would not hurt competitiveness, as many industries already gave workers 17 paid holidays.
