Policeman opens fire

A POLICEMAN fired a shot during an attack by a group of alleged smugglers. Nine men were arrested and cigarettes worth more than $600,000 seized during the operation in Tai Po.

The men tried to escape when police swooped on two light goods vehicles near a trawler moored at Sam Mun Chai pier and several officers were attacked. Six men were arrested on the trawler, two on the pier and one was taken from the water.
