PRIME Minister John Major faced yet another crisis in his administration yesterday following the resignation of a government whip over allegations of a homosexual affair.
Conservative MP Michael Brown stood down after newspaper claims that he had a homosexual relationship with a 20-year-old Tory student with whom he had gone on holiday.
The News of the World quoted Adam Morris, a student at the London Sch, a leading member of the influential No Turning Back group of right-wingers said he was leaving the Government ''with a view to instituting proceedings following allegations about me''.
He became a whip last year after four years as a parliamentary private secretary.
The resignation came as yet another blow to the Conservatives following their poor results in last week's local government elections.
The allegations of scandal are just the latest in a series to hit the Tory Government. The Tories are trying to maintain a united front ahead of predictions that they will fare even worse in next month's European Parliament elections, but, in resigning so promptly, Mr Brown has at least spared the Prime Minister another prolonged period of agony.
