Are you feeling a little lazy and don't want to leave the house? For pet owners who prefer to stay at home, house calls by a professional may be the answer. Here are a few options that are only a phone call or click away.

Vet Checks

Creature Comforts' (www.creaturecomforts.com.hk) veterinary surgeon David Gething started making house calls in 2002. He checks eyes, ears and heart problems and provides the usual vaccinations. More serious problems requiring X-rays or surgery are directed to the East Island Animal Hospital, where Gething also treats the animals.

A typical recent day for Gething involved checking a limping dog that needed orthopaedic surgery and another animal with a skin problem that was vomiting and had diarrhoea.

'Pets are a lot less stressed at home, and it's much more helpful to make a diagnosis if they are seen in their own environment,' says Trilby White, practice manager at Creature Comforts. 'If a cat urinated inappropriately in the house, maybe it's got kidney problems or diabetes, or maybe it's stressed because of a new baby [in the home], which we normally would not be able to find out in a clinic environment.'

Other services Creature Comforts offer are home delivery of prescription and science diets from brands such as Hill's and Royal Canin food. General medicine and prescriptions can be arranged by phone, fax or e-mail.
