Please show side-on angle at start of races

Why you can trust SCMP

And one item from the 'we thought this was fixed' list. Television coverage.

The blanket head-on coverage of starts from, for example, the Happy Valley 1,200m, was mentioned some years back here and placed into the out tray when action appeared to have been taken.

But in the last six months, the tendency for the coverage - controlled by the Jockey Club - to show the start head-on for the live picture and again for the patrol footage replay has crept back in. Not just for that 1,200m Valley start but for a number of starts there and also at Sha Tin.

(There have also been occasions lately when the commentators talking viewers through the patrol footage have been stuck with the side-on television shot instead - the one everybody already saw live. Somebody forgot to press the right button in the director's room - not exactly the professionalism boasted by the club.)

The reason for having the head-on patrol footage at all is so that people get a different angle and it does show you different things - that's why the racing stewards have a number of different camera angles to help them dissect events in a race.

Can we please show the side-on angle for these starts when the race is live and let the head-on coverage be ... head-on? Thanks. Again.
