The Royal Garden, 69 Mody Rd, Tsim Sha Tsui East. Tel: 2733 2995 The vibe: the bar is located on the ground floor of The Royal Garden hotel. While the decor is a tad on the generic side, the atmosphere is casual and the staff are friendly. Several televisions display sporting events - and the Discovery Channel. Patrons can elect to sit on plush chairs, perch next to the bar or at a long table with many stools. A piano player belts out lounge favourites and show tunes, although, at times, the volume is a tad too loud if you want to have a conversation. If you're feeling peckish, the snack menu ($68-$98) has comfort food from around the world. The drinks: it's no surprise that the house speciality is the martini. For those with a sweet tooth, try the Marcucci (HK$120), a signature martini with gin, fresh ginger, lime, grapefruit juice and a hint of vanilla. If you can't decide between a martini or a glass of wine, go for the California (HK$120), a martini with vodka, red wine, rum and orange bitters, garnished with an orange twist. There are cocktails such as the Negroni (HK$90) and the Mad Men television series character Don Draper's drink of choice, the Old Fashioned (HK$90). The verdict: with ample seating and a large selection of drink options, this is a good place to fit in an after-work tipple or kick off an evening on the town.
