Aliens, animals and popular Disney characters will soar through the air  in a birthday celebration Disneyland parade producers say has been inspired by every child's ambition  to fly.
'Celebration in the Air' is the theme of the parade planned to mark the fifth anniversary of Hong Kong Disneyland.
'Flying in the sky is everyone's childhood dream,' said the park's production director, Lisa Tsang Ching-man. 'Through this interactive parade, we want to make this fantasy come true.'
The parade, part of the resort's Lunar New Year project, will be introduced on January 21.
Of the seven sets of themed vehicles used in the parade, three - Toy Story, Jungle Book and Winnie the Pooh - can raise  elements as high as 12 metres.  
The park says dancers will interact with the different parts of the vehicles, creating the visual effects of flying characters.  
Characters on the parade vehicles will 'fly' by different means. 
On the Toy Story float, four Squeeze Toy Aliens  will be attached to a vertical elevator. As Rex the Green Dinosaur 'pumps' air into the elevator the Aliens will rise, to cavort with suspended dancers. 
On the Winnie the Pooh float balloons will be attached to the elevator, taking four characters into the sky. 
Two show stops will be introduced for the first time, allowing spectators to interact with the parade vehicles and the dancers. 
 'The scale of the production is unprecedentedly large, not only in terms of the number of dancers and designers involved, but also in the training and technology that have been put into the production,' costumier Jeannie Lau Man-yi said.
Designer-in-chief for the show is Broadway theatre designer Mirena Rada, who was also the designer of the Tokyo Disneyland 25th Anniversary Parade and Broadway musical Avenue Q,  winner of the 2004 Tony Award for Best Musical. 
Tsang said that many Japanese Disney fans had already shown interest and booked tickets to Hong Kong when the event started its promotion in October. It  was also expected to attract many international tourists.
