Two screens shielded Lam Ka-chun from the public, but the accused said to be his former triad brothers had a clear view of the man who for 11 years fought and worked for the Tai Kok Tsui faction of the Wo Shing Wo.

Yesterday, he was describing their roles in the murder of a senior leader of a rival gang to the Court of First Instance as a witness under immunity from prosecution.

One alleged former brother in the dock was Lee Chun-kong, Lam's childhood friend. Lam said he was one of three knifemen who chopped Lee Tai-lung repeatedly as he lay dying on the forecourt of the Kowloon Shangri-La in August 2009.

Not on trial, but still named as responsible for the murder, were the other two alleged knifemen: So Kai-man, another childhood friend of Lam's for over 10 years, and Ng Yick-tong, Lam's alleged 'big brother'.

He also placed Lo Chin-wang and Yeung Man-ting - alleged triads ranked more senior than him - at a meeting to discuss the murder hours before it occurred. The prosecution said Lo ran over the deceased Lee before he was chopped. Yeung - an alleged senior triad who Lam had known for six years - was present to ensure the job was done properly.

Police were both inside and outside the courtroom where Lam acknowledged his immunity before Mr Justice Alan Wright. Screens shielded him from the public gallery's view, but the judge, jury, barristers and defendants had no such obstruction.
