THE pro-democracy Association for Democracy and People's Livelihood (ADPL) said yesterday it would seek to add two principles to the new Democratic Party's platform if it were accepted as a member. It called for ''equal participation'' in the new party's preparatory committee, though its presence there depends on the discussions of founding parties the United Democrats and Meeting Point at Sunday's extraordinary general meeting. ADPL chairman Frederick Fung Kin-kee said the party's general meeting on Monday had agreed to fight for the extra clauses in the 10-point manifesto drafted by the two parties. They were that the party should improve the quality of life for the middle and low-income classes through the reasonable allocation of social resources; and that ''improper provisions'' in the Basic Law should be amended and democratic reform speeded up after 1997, in line with the Joint Declaration and Basic Law.
