A ''BARBARIC'' gunman who belonged to a band of robbers that terrorised Hong Kong was yesterday jailed for 131/2 years.
Kong Hing-keung, 25, admitted being in armed gangs which took hostages, hijacked taxis and twice engaged in shootouts with police during a string of violent robberies.
Kong was also part of a gang that stormed an exclusive restaurant where diners, including a top film director and Chinesat pursuing police to escape arrest, but was caught two weeks later.
Yesterday he pleaded guilty to four robberies, two attempted robberies, three counts of possessing a firearm and one of using a gun with intent to evade arrest.
High Court Deputy Judge Wong, sitting in the District Court, gave him sentences totalling 74 years, but ordered he serve 131/2 years in prison.
He told Kong: ''You sneak in and out of Hong Kong, bringing guns and brandishing them to terrorise law abiding citizens to achieve your aim.
