Australian jockey Tye Angland has broken his shoulder and will need to undergo surgery after a dramatic, albeit acrobatic, fall from Cerise Cherry in the home straight of the Chinese New Year Cup (1,400m). Angland bounced straight to his feet after the incident, clutching his left arm to support his dislocated joint, but was soon laid out on a stretcher and escorted to Prince Of Wales hospital where scans revealed a break which will require surgical repair. Angland, a former Rodeo rider who has taken his share of tumbles in the bull ring, did his best to ride out the 'eight seconds' on his mount after the Derek Cruz-trained Cerise Cherry blundered and bounced Angland out of his irons and onto its neck. An inquiry into the incident was adjourned until a date to be fixed when Angland is available to give evidence.
