Three men were jailed for life yesterday for murdering a Sun Yee On triad leader  - ramming him with a car before stabbing him on the forecourt of the Kowloon Shangri-La hotel.
 Two others were found not guilty and released.
Lee Wan-kong, 37, Lo Chin-wang, 46, Lee Chun-kong, 23, and Yeung Man-ting, 50, were charged with murder. Yeung faced an alternative charge of conspiracy to wound with intent.
Li Yuen-wo, 36, faced court for allegedly arranging the men's illegal passage from the mainland to Hong Kong and back to provide an alibi. 
All five had pleaded not guilty in the Court of First Instance.
Last night a seven-member jury returned the verdicts after seven hours of deliberation. 
The Lees and Lo were found guilty, the former by a majority of five to two, and the latter by six to one. 
Yeung was found not guilty of both  charges 5-2.
 
Mr Justice Ian Wright jailed the Lees and Lo for life. Murder carries a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment. 
A relative of one of the convicted men appeared to faint after the ruling.
The court heard triad leader Lee Tai-lung, 41, had been attacked by a rival gang  over a bar brawl three years earlier.
Prosecutors said Leung Kwok-chung, a senior member of the Tai Kok Tsui faction of the Wo Shing Wo triad group, was behind the killing.  Lee, a senior member of the rival Sun Yee On, smashed a bottle of whisky on Leung's head during the fight in July 2006  in the 80's Style Lounge in Prat Avenue.  
 Leung was left with a scar down the right side of his face and throat, prosecutor Charlotte Draycott SC told the court.
'He was scarred and humiliated and so a grudge was born,' Draycott said.
 'He had the resources to take revenge and it seems men like these do not forget an injury or hurt pride.'
CCTV footage was played in court showing Lee Tai-lung getting out of his Mercedes on the forecourt of the hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui East just before 4am.
He was then hit at high speed by a Toyota  that threw him into the air, breaking his leg and cracking his skull.
A witness said he saw three men appear. CCTV footage showed the three men weilding large knives above their heads before hacking into Lee's motionless body.
A dark green Honda car carrying four senior members of the Wo Shing Wo pulled up in the middle of the attack.
 The prosecution said Lee Wan-kong drove other members of the gang to Tsim Sha Tsui to act as lookouts. 
Soon after the attack the Toyota and the Honda - which had been stolen - were found burnt out in Lam Tsuen, Tai Po. 
An array of knives, face masks, caps, gloves and  weapons were found in the Honda.



Three get life for murdering triad leader
