Sir David, larger than life
Hong Kong's top toff, David Tang Wing-cheung, is bragging that he has lost more than 20kg in the past nine months. The reason we know this is that the knight wrote about it in the current edition of British weekly The Spectator, where he has a column: Hong Kong Notebook.
He jokes that he regularly used to do three types of exercise: jumping to conclusions, running for cover and stretching his imagination.
When this failed, along with dabbling with other diets, he resolved to lose half a kilogram a week by reducing his food intake by 500 calories a day, together with regular exercise. According to our calculations, that's the equivalent of six glasses of red wine.
Despite his success, he complains that he still has to lose more than 5kg 'to appear normal'.
So he was presumably starting from quite a high base.
