The who's who of Hong Kong's indie music and art scene came out to support one of their own at SoHo's hip art cafe Culture Club on Thursday. Vickie Chan of Six Pack of Wolves packed the venue with revellers who came to see her first solo exhibition, the enigmatically titled Space (Touching the Void).
'I'm amazed at the turnout,' Chan said, in between greeting guests and potential buyers. 'There are people here that I honestly didn't expect to see.'
Installation artists Simon Birch and Adrian Wong, both of whom are busy working on projects for this year, mingled with artisan chocolatiers Roger Chan and Veronica Pepe, rocker Paul McClean of DP, TV show host Carl Ng and Lionel Laulhe (both pictured with Chan).
The indie scene's Sherin Siew of up-and-coming band 9 Maps and Luke Chow of Hungry Ghosts played acoustic sets during the opening.
'So much of my process is inspired by and relates to music,' Chan said. 'I didn't want this evening to be a plain wine-and-cheese affair. It had to have live music, and by some of my favourite people on the current scene.'
