Steve Lawler

Fly, tonight, from 9pm until close

With a career spanning more than 18 years, Steve Lawler has come a long way from throwing illegal raves in the darkened recesses of the M40 motorway throughout the 90s. Lawler is renowned for playing a smorgasbord of tracks that transcend their genres. His deep, dark mixes simultaneously maintain their grit but keep energy levels high. His sound is dark but not depressing.

This is made possible through drum driven tracks that rely heavily on rolling tribal tech beats laid underneath fast moving percussion and Latin rhythms. His 2010 release Almerina (Harthouse) is a typical example of his ability to draw from far and wide with unanimously cohesive results.

Lawler (right) is respected among his peers for his consistent efforts and dedication to his live shows. He became known as the 'King of Space' after holding a residency at the Ibizan institution for more than nine years. Other residencies of note include his own VIVa Nights, held at London's The End, while his first major break came with a chance encounter with Darren Hughes and a residency at notorious club Cream.

In 2007, his career moved into a new realm with release of Rise In, his most commercially successful single. Its haunting vocal, taken from the Reef song Mellow, and fast paced snare launched it into the top 50 of the British charts.

Since then he has been a prolific producer, creating many compilation albums, including Global Underground's Lights Out II and the acclaimed Gimme Some More. Apart from his own label VIVa Music, Lawler has been released on OVUM, Cocoon, Sci+Tech and Drumcodeamoung among others.
