New broom Andy Brothers has made sweeping changes to the Hong Kong Davis Cup set-up with two new players named in the four-man squad for next month's Asia/Oceania Zone Group Two opener against Pakistan at Victoria Park.
South African Coenie van Wyk and American-born Jonathan Chu are set to make their debuts. The other two players are Cup stalwarts Martin Sayer and Yu Hiu-tung.
Brothers, whose appointment last month ended Derek Ling Hay-ming's 10 years as non-playing captain of the Davis Cup squad, believes the two fresh faces will give Hong Kong an edge in doubles.
'Both of them are very strong doubles players, especially Coenie. This has always been an area of concern for us in the past but now we will have several options,' he said.
Hong Kong have struggled in the past in the doubles. But in their last tie, against Sri Lanka last summer, Sayer and Yu saved Hong Kong from relegation by winning the doubles.
Van Wyk and Chu are favoured to carry the doubles challenge during the March 4-6 tie.
