Crane wheel crushes worker to death

A crane wheel weighing a tonne fell on a 57-year-old man in Sheung Shui yesterday, crushing him to death. Firemen used a forklift to raise the wheel from the container yard worker's body. The man and two of his colleagues were trying to remove the 2-metre-diameter wheel from a crane truck at the Jockey Club Road site at about 2.15pm when the inner tube of the tyre burst and the wheel fell, police said. The two survivors suffered minor injuries.
