A group of wine professionals recently attended a tasting of 2000 bordeaux, hosted by Sotheby's and Bordeaux Winebank, which gave a guarantee of impeccable provenance. Bordeaux Winebank supplies wines ex-chateau - straight from the producer in the original packaging. Bottles sold ex-chateau command a premium in the open market and, given the risk of counterfeit wines in our part of the world, we can expect this 'authenticity premium' to rise substantially in future.
The 2000 vintage was a turning point in Bordeaux. With this vintage the wines became bolder, more carefully managed and, yes, pricier. The wines are available in Hong Kong through various fine wine merchants or via auction houses. The ratings for these wines are too subtle to use the five-star rankings, so we're using the 100 points system.
Chateau Latour
Classy, elegant, lead pencil - this is Latour all the way. Light slate notes, substantial fruit, austerity on palate, red plums, currants, barely discernable oak notes and subtle cedar. Fine, dry finish. Powdery back palate. More forthcoming and accessible than Lafite, with finely etched tannins and an extraordinary finish.
97-98/100
Chateau Lafite
