More activist groups joined protests against the budget yesterday.
The main entrance to the government headquarters in Central was swamped with protesters throughout the day as groups took turns to stage demonstrations, demanding Financial Secretary John Tsang Chun-wah offer more relief.
A major civil service union said its members were unfairly treated in the blueprint, as they were excluded from the one-off HK$6,000 payment to retirement funds.
Legislator Frederick Fung Kin-kee, who led representatives from the Association for Democracy and People's Livelihood in a rally, described the measure as 'a joke'.
'People will have to wait until they are 65 to get the pension. It can help no one facing rising living costs today.'
The pro-government Liberal Party, led by chairwoman Miriam Lau Kin-yee, also petitioned government headquarters, saying the budget failed to come up with measures to help the middle class.
