Debating is very educational
Many of us have taken part in or watched debating competitions. We can learn a lot from debating.
Not only does it teach reading, writing, listening and public speaking skills but it also gives us confidence.
You can also learn how to co-operate with your teammates. Debating is not a personal competition, it's a group sport. As a group you brainstorm the topic together and work out what position you will take, such as first speaker and second speaker.
Different positions have different jobs. This is where you need to co-operate. If you don't work together, you may end up repeating what your teammates have talked about.
There are many things we can learn when it comes to debating, and students should be encouraged to take part in it.
