REMEMBER Old Master Q (Lao Fu Zi), the eccentric comic character who covers his bald head with a small China cap and wears a long outdated three-buttoned costume? He will jump out of his comic frames to appear in a hilarious musical, Chung Ying Theatre's debut at the biennial Asian Arts Festival in November.
Old Master Q , Chung Ying's ultimate wacky comedy for the audience, is the climax of a string of youth-oriented programmes the company is cooking up for drama-lovers this year.
Master Q marks the collaboration of an exceptional creative team: film director Ko Chi-sum, playwright Cheung Tat-ming, lyricist Cheng Kwok-kong and scores composer/FM select disc jockey Harry Goh Goh.
''There is a lack of shows for children in Hong Kong. Master Q will be a comic spree with songs, dance and incredible magic suitable for the whole family,'' says Ko, who returns to stage work after a 10-year hiatus.
Erhu music, rap talk, Harry Goh Goh's maverick magic, and his DJ partner Steve James' ''special audio effects'' are all part of the slapstick.
They all help to make this year a milestone for Chung Ying - all its productions are either written or directed by members, aptly celebrating the company's 15th anniversary with its pursuit in originality and creativeness.
The four short plays to appear this month are some samples.
