Breton stripes have always been in fashion, but this spring, the classic pattern will be everywhere. Loved by old Hollywood stars such as Audrey Hepburn, stripes are the epitome of class. But new designs from Jil Sander, Prada, Jason Wu, Fendi and others range from eccentric to fun and anything in between. Contrary to popular belief, horizontal stripes can make people look slim as they create a sense of depth.

Many stores have their own interpretation of stripes. Monki's striped shirt has a Chanel fineness which exudes femininity and strength. The Monki skirt is versatile - it can be worn with sandals, or dressed up with a leather bomber jacket and booties. Stripes also work well for guys, especially nautical stripe hoodies.

Stripes continue to be hot this season. Celebrities are fans of this taste of yesteryear and most high street shops are selling it. H&M's striped tops come in a range of colours. Stripes work with pretty much any type of clothing, and striped blazers in particular are in. Match striped shorts with a plain top or the other way round - but beware of too many stripes. Pair a striped top and jacket for a more sophisticated look, or go bright with a flowery striped dress.
