Who started it? French jewellery brand Les Nereides was founded by husband-and-wife design team Pascale and Enzo Amaddeo. The pair met while studying at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Belgium and opened their first boutique in Nice, France, 30 years ago. Today the brand is sold in nine countries. As well as costume jewellery, Les Nereides produces fashion accessories and perfume.
Why we love it: the jewellery is full of whimsy and charm. The Amaddeos travel the world in search of new techniques and inspiration, and their designs are influenced by a range of cultures and styles. Decidedly girly, the intricate pieces are all handmade and incorporate tiny ornaments and figurines embellished with diamantes, ribbon and beads. Animals and characters from fairy tales feature heavily throughout their work, with subjects ranging from swans and ballerinas to tiny houses and fruit. For spring-summer, the brand is celebrating its anniversary with the launch of Joli Mois de Mai collection, inspired by garden plants and flowers and the insects that visit them, such as dragonflies, butterflies and bees.
What we'd pick: we love the Demoiselles du bonheur necklace (right; HK$1,700), featuring four-leaf clovers, tiny ladybirds and snap peas on a gold chain. We also like the classically girly and delicate Voluptueuse et Vaporeuse earrings (above left; HK$2,000), with pink flowers, tiny peal beads and small ornamental flowers. The Balade en Reve necklace (above right; HK$4,800) features a variety of flowers.
