Cathay Pacific added two extra flights, about 700 seats, from Tokyo to Hong Kong last night to help meet demand, a spokesman said. Normally there are seven Hong Kong-bound flights a day out of Tokyo. A request to stop overnight stays by the Flight Attendants Union concerned about the threat from radiation and aftershocks was also accepted. Union chairman Dora Lai Yuk-sim estimated the decision to stop layovers would cut costs by about HK$100,000 for Cathay and called on it to donate the savings to the quake relief fund.
