I'm pretty fit and have a normal waist (no beer gut), but my legs are quite big. Whenever I try on jeans these days, they just look wrong. Can you recommend some that will look OK on me?

Mr Dandy: Sorry but you're just going to have to resign yourself to a few hours of shopping and trying on. Don't waste time on the cool,, but ultimately academic, online fit guides. Pick a one-stop denim shop such as Sogo (555 Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay, tel: 2833 8338), where jeans brands include: Levi's (right), Calvin Klein, Lee, Guess, Chevignon, Hilfiger Denim, Pepe and Polo Jeans. Or hit 7 for All Mankind, Evisu, Levi's and True Religion, among others, at IFC Mall, Central. Bring a friend who will be honest with you. Have them take pictures of you in the best finds and compare them to make your final decision. It may feel uncomfortable but do not resist taking this last step.

Mr Dapper: You said the key words 'these days'. Step away from the trendy skinny jeans and stick to older styles. What you've missed, though, is which part of your legs are big. The fit will be entirely different if you have thunder thighs (look for 'relaxed fit'), massive calves (try a 'boot cut'), or big, uh, everything ('plus size'). Remember Levi's? It still makes classic 501s, as well as more relaxed fits, such as 550, 559 or 560 (HK$1,999 to HK$2,999; IFC Mall, tel: 2234 7125). The brand has added fantastic updates, designer collaborations and more colour washes to its offerings, too. In addition to fit, take into consideration the fabric and colour wash. Avoid looking like an 1980s reject by putting down the acid wash in favour of the dark indigo.

I have been looking for Davines hair products, specifically the 'Invisible paste soft hold' without success. Is this product available in Hong Kong?

Mr Dapper: As far as we know, no, you can't buy Davines Defining Invisible Paste (below) in Hong Kong. However, you can order it online and have it delivered within a week, sometimes at no extra charge (HK$153 from www.strawberrynet.com; HK$170 from www.cdwow.com.hk; or HK$170 from www.amazon.com). As far as I'm concerned, that's even better. It means you don't have to schlep around every time you need to stock up on a measly tube of hair product. Also, I know we're living in the age of the metrosexual and all that, but I must admit, I'd rather be caught in the act of buying a racy magazine than grooming products.

Now, to proudly reveal my ignorance on the topic of men's hair styling, I need to ask: what's so special about this stuff?
