Primary students join the fun at rope-skipping demonstration
The Coca-Cola All Schools Rope Skipping Awards Scheme is promoting the sport among students as a way to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.
'The main goal [of the scheme] is to raise an interest in rope-skipping among students,' skipping coach and head demonstrator Calvin Mok Lee-sang said. 'It all begins with interest - that's what will make them continue skipping even after this workshop.'
Last week, the scheme visited Po Leung Kuk Portuguese Community School where they held a demonstration and workshop. Around 80 primary students from the school took part.
The two-hour session featured a 30-minute slideshow about proper exercises and healthy eating habits.
Besides a live demonstration of rope skipping, the students received step-by-step instructions on basic and advanced skipping techniques, including the safe use of the rope.
The most exciting part of the day came when the children participated in solo and team skipping activities. 'My mum taught me basic skipping before,' said Primary Four student Cheng Kuo. 'But today I learned some more advanced stuff like the 'open and closed leg' and 'skiing' techniques. It was super fun!'
