A Hong Kong resident who emigrated to Fukushima has no plans to return to Hong Kong as he is serving as a volunteer in a relief centre making meals for earthquake victims, the Immigration Department said yesterday.
The resident was one of two missing Hongkongers who the department located yesterday.
Acting Director of Immigration, Chan Kwok-kei, said the other resident was now in Thailand.
Chan said it was a selfless act for the Hongkonger to serve the victims near Fukushima, where radiation from the crippled nuclear power plant has forced thousands to leave their homes.
'He is an emigrant to Japan who has worked there for a long time,' he said. 'He's safe now and has no plans to return to Hong Kong.'
Chan said they still could not get into contact with 13 Hong Kong people.
