About 400 people, most of them teenagers, packed into a hall last week seeking tips from acclaimed photographers on how to take eye-catching pictures.
They were attending a workshop conducted by the National Geographic Channel at the Hong Kong Productivity Council in Kowloon Tong. The channel is running a photo and documentary video competition called the 'Live Curious Awards'.
It is divided into two categories - public and secondary school students - with the documentary-making competition open only to students. The photo competition comprises four sections - people, animals, architecture and travel.
Since the competition was launched three weeks ago, more than 10,000 submissions have been received. The deadline is April 30.
One of the competition's judges was on hand to give the budding cameramen some advice. Bobby Yip encouraged teenagers looking for a good picture to be curious about the surroundings. Yip is a senior photographer with the international news agency Reuters and former chairman of the Hong Kong Press Photographers' Association.
He said people see many interesting things in life every day. It would make a good picture if they were curious and patient enough to capture them in photos, he said.
