The backstreets of Kwun Tong are a long way from New York - in many ways about as far as you can get. But they'll still provide a fitting backdrop for the music of guitarist Eyal Maoz (right).
His is a wild blend of rock, jazz and Middle Eastern influences - an industrial-level mix that has seen Maoz's skills commandeered by the avant-garde artist John Zorn, a musician known for pushing forward the boundaries of sound about as far as possible.
Support on stage will be provided by Andrew Page (keyboards), Nicholas McBride (drums) and Peter Scherr (bass) for what promises to be one wild night. It was Scherr who had been pumping for Maoz to come out and experience the Hong Kong live scene first hand.
'Eyal is a friend of a friend of mine in the States, a wonderful saxophonist named Briggan Krauss,' says Scherr. 'Briggan has been over here a few times to play with me and he gave Eyal my contact.
'Eyal's wife is Chinese so he comes to the mainland and we've been trying to get together for a couple of years now. That's how this has all come about. It's the first time the schedules have been right. I love his music and I am sure Hong Kong will, so here we go.'
