A YOUNG man with a promising career threw it away when he forged documents to give himself a better chance of promotion, Eastern Court heard.
Yesterday Fong Fuk-loi, 27, was sentenced to six months' jail, suspended for one year, when he admitted forging a document, making a false instrument and obtaining property by deception between May and October 1992.
Five charges were put on file. Fong, an insurance sales agent with American International Assurance Company (Bermuda) Ltd, was ordered to pay $5,000 costs.
The court heard Fong wanted the job of unit manager. To get it, he had to hire sales agents. Fong forged documents, claiming he had recruited sales agent Kwok Chi-ming, then pretended Kwok had secured two insurance policies.
The company paid out $3,121 in salary and commission, and Fong presented the cheque to a bank.
He also received a cheque for US$245 (about HK$1,890) in commission for Kwok, the court heard.
