THE Breakthrough Youth Village has attracted an encouraging response from the public as is evident from the $70 million donations it has received from organisations and individuals so far.
The amount makes up about 46 per cent of the estimated costs of $150 million required for constructing and furnishing the complex.
Located in A Kung Kok Shan Road, Sha Tin, the complex will occupy more than 8,000 square metres of land. The youth village, which is now under construction, is expected to be ready by the middle of next year.
At a recent foundation-laying ceremony, Breakthrough general secretary Dr Philemon Choi Yuen-wan expressed his gratitude to the public for their generous contributions.
Major donors and sponsors included Lui Ming Choi Foundation, S.H. Ho Foundation, F & D Foundation and Zindart (De Zhen) Foundation.
He also pledged greater support from local business corporations for the development of youth services.
''The youth village is a commitment to offer young people integrated services beyond the year 2000.
