TWO senior ATV employees resigned yesterday in apparent protest at the appointment of a new deputy chief executive.

Garmen Chan Ka-yiu and Timothy Jim Sui-hing walked out after Clarence Chang Ching-po was brought in as the new head of news and current affairs.

Mr Chan was ATV's controller of news and public affairs and Mr Jim was an assistant chief executive. Both had been credited with raising the profile of the station, particularly with documentaries on the Chinese channel and the Thursday night talk show, Newstease.

Sources at the station yesterday said the pair felt their positions had been undermined by the appointment.

Mr Chan, who had been at ATV for 18 months, would only say that his contract was due to expire shortly and that he had been looking for greener pastures.

Neither Mr Chang nor Mr Jim could be contacted for comment.
