NEWCOMER Tactics may prove a useful addition to the stable of Derek Cruz who had no reason to be displeased with the gelding's first outing in the second event last night.

Tactics raced well just off the pace and came into the turn wide and had no answer as bottomweight Great Dancer skipped away to win well.

But Tactics was looking just a trifle above himself in condition in the paddock and had not come in his coat. A little more time and this fellow will be winning a race or two.

Ivan Allan produced another good youngster in Active Luck who won the sixth event and will win again next season.

Active Luck is a New Zealand two-year-old who was badly off at the weights against his older rivals yet turned in an impeccable display.

And don't give up yet on front-running Oriental Power who faded out of contention in a final event won commandingly by Conticasta.
