A BRITISH Army captain who lapsed into a coma after suffering head injuries in a fight outside a Wan Chai nightclub last month was unfit to stand trial on a wounding charge, Eastern Court was told yesterday.
Christopher Richard Burke, 26, pleaded not guilty to one count of wounding Andrew Robert Lewens, 28, outside Joe Bananas nightclub on April 14. Magistrate Fergal Sweeney fixed November 16 for mention of the charge after an adjournment was sought.
Army solicitor David Ash said Burke lost three stone while recuperating and was not strong enough for a required operation.
Prosecutor John Reading said a six-month adjournment was too long. Burke was granted bail of $5,000 on his own recognisance.
